Product Safety & Usage Guidelines

Version 1.0Updated: 04 May 2026

1. Introduction

These Product Safety & Usage Guidelines apply to all inflatable products supplied by Chameleon Inflatables, including jumping castles, water slides, interactive attractions, and commercial inflatables.

Please read these guidelines fully before using any of our products. Following these guidelines is essential to keep users safe and to maintain the longevity of your product. The buyer/operator of the product is responsible for ensuring that all persons using or supervising the inflatable are aware of and comply with this guide.

2. Before Each Use: Pre-Use Inspection

Inspect your inflatable before every use. Check for:

Any visible damage, tears, punctures, or worn seams
All anchor points secure and undamaged
Blower and power cord in good working order, no exposed wiring
No sharp objects, debris, or hazards in or around the setup area
All zippers, Velcro, and safety netting intact and functional

If you notice any damage, do not use the product. Contact Chameleon Inflatables to arrange a repair before use resumes.

3. Setup Location

Choose your setup site carefully. The location must be:

Flat and level — avoid slopes, uneven ground, or surfaces that could destabilise the inflatable
Clear of sharp objects — sticks, stones, glass, thorns, or other debris
Free of overhead hazards — power lines, tree branches, roof edges, or sharp fixtures
Adequately sized — leave a minimum clearance of 2 metres around all sides of the inflatable
Away from water sources — unless the product is specifically designed for water use
Away from open flames, heat sources, and barbecues

Ground Protection

Always place a ground sheet or tarpaulin under the inflatable to protect the base from abrasion, moisture, and small debris. Ground sheets are available for purchase from Chameleon Inflatables.

4. Anchoring

All inflatables must be securely anchored to prevent the product lifting or moving during use.

On Grass or Soft Ground

Use the provided ground stakes through every anchor point
Stakes must be fully driven into the ground at an angle away from the inflatable
Never leave stakes partially protruding above ground level

On Hard Surfaces (Tar, Concrete, Paving)

Use sandbags or weighted anchors — minimum 15 kg per anchor point
Never use the inflatable on hard surfaces without proper weighting
Use a ground sheet to protect the base from abrasion

Never operate an inflatable that is not properly anchored.

5. Weather Conditions

Safe weather assessment is critical. Do not use the inflatable in the following conditions:

Wind

Maximum safe wind speed: 25 km/h
Use an anemometer or check current wind speed via a reliable weather service
If in doubt, deflate and secure the inflatable
Sudden gusts can cause serious injury or damage

Rain, Lightning & Storms

Do not use during rain, thunderstorms, or lightning
Water combined with typical PVC inflatables creates a dangerous slipping hazard (except water-specific products)
Lightning is an extreme electrical hazard — evacuate the inflatable and disconnect the blower immediately if a storm approaches

Heat

Avoid use during extreme heat (above 35°C) — inflatable surfaces can become very hot
Shade or early-morning use is preferable in hot weather

6. Blower Operation

The blower must run continuously during use. Inflatables deflate within seconds without active airflow.

Use only the blower supplied with the inflatable (or one of equivalent specification)
Connect to a stable power source — avoid extension cords longer than necessary
Keep the power cord away from high-traffic areas to prevent trip hazards
Never allow children to tamper with the blower or power cord
If a generator is used, ensure it is properly earthed and fuelled safely
Load-shedding: have an alternative power source ready, or cease use when power is unavailable

7. Supervision

Adult supervision is mandatory at all times during use.

Assign at least one responsible adult supervisor per inflatable, minimum
For larger inflatables or commercial events, increase the number of supervisors proportionally
Supervisors must be sober, attentive, and free from distractions (no phone use during supervision)
Supervisors must know how to evacuate the inflatable in an emergency
Never leave users unattended, even briefly

8. User Rules

Enforce the following rules for all users:

Before Entering

Remove shoes, glasses, jewellery, watches, belts, keys, cell phones, and any sharp objects
Empty pockets
Tie back long hair
No food, drinks, chewing gum, or sweets
No pets

During Use

No rough play, pushing, or fighting
No somersaults, flips, or dangerous manoeuvres
No climbing on walls, netting, or support columns
No sitting or lying on entrance/exit points
Users should enter and exit in an orderly manner
Do not use if feeling unwell, dizzy, or after a heavy meal

Prohibited Users

The following persons must not use the inflatable:

Persons under the influence of alcohol or drugs
Pregnant women
Persons with back, neck, or joint injuries
Persons with heart conditions
Persons with a history of seizures or vertigo

9. Capacity, Age & User Separation

Each Chameleon Inflatables product has recommended user limits. Please refer to the product information, quote, or invoice for specific guidance on your unit. If you are unsure, contact us before use.

General Guidelines

Do not exceed the stated maximum number of users at one time
Respect stated age ranges — mixing ages can cause injuries to smaller children
For inflatables used by mixed age groups, rotate users by age/size:
Small children (3–7 years) should use the inflatable separately from older children
Very young children (under 3) should be accompanied by a supervising adult, or not use the inflatable at all
Teenagers and adults should not use inflatables designed for young children
Respect weight limits — overloading can damage the product and cause injury

Recommendation: If exact user limits are not stated for your product, err on the side of caution. Fewer users per rotation is always safer.

10. Water Slides & Water Inflatables

Additional safety measures apply to products designed for water use:

Constant adult supervision is even more critical near water
Check water depth at landing areas — should not exceed safe depth per product guidance
Ensure water source (hose, pump) is secure and does not create trip hazards
Keep surrounding surfaces non-slip — use mats where possible at entry/exit points
Do not allow running around the base of the slide
Users must exit the pool/splash area promptly after landing
One user on the slide at a time unless specifically designed for multiple users
No diving headfirst unless the product explicitly allows it
Be aware that wet surfaces are more slippery on climb-up areas and platforms — enforce slower, careful climbing

11. Interactive & Sports Inflatables

Products such as gladiator arenas, bungee runs, obstacle courses, and sports games have additional requirements:

Users must be roughly equal in size and skill
Protective clothing is recommended for contact-based games
No elbow strikes, kicks, or deliberate impacts to head/face
Clear rules must be explained to all users before play
Stop play immediately if any participant appears distressed, injured, or at risk

12. Emergency Procedures

Rapid Deflation

If the inflatable begins to deflate unexpectedly:

1. Calmly direct all users to the nearest exit

2. Check that the blower is still running and powered

3. Check for visible punctures or disconnected air tubes

4. Do not re-enter until the cause has been identified and resolved

Injury

If an injury occurs:

1. Stop use immediately

2. Clear the inflatable of all users

3. Administer first aid or call emergency services as appropriate

4. Record the incident (date, time, nature of injury, users involved)

Fire or Electrical Fault

1. Evacuate all users immediately

2. Disconnect the blower from the power source

3. Call emergency services if the situation is serious

13. Takedown & Packing

After use:

1. Clear all users from the inflatable

2. Turn off and disconnect the blower

3. Open all deflation valves

4. Fold the inflatable neatly along its seams when fully deflated

5. Ensure the inflatable is completely dry before packing — storing wet inflatables causes mould and PVC damage

6. Remove all anchors, stakes, or sandbags

7. Pack in the supplied carry bag or storage container

14. Cleaning & Maintenance

Wipe down with a mild soap and warm water solution after each use
Do not use harsh chemicals, solvents, or abrasive cleaners
Allow to air-dry completely before packing away
Check for and remove any dirt, leaves, or debris that could cause wear
Inspect seams, Velcro, and zips regularly for signs of wear

15. Storage

Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space
Keep away from direct sunlight, extreme heat, and damp environments
Store elevated from the floor on a pallet or shelf if possible
Keep away from pests and rodents that may chew through PVC
Do not stack heavy items on top of a stored inflatable
